Mechanical Conveying

There are many types of mechanical conveying systems and equipment which may be integrated into a powder handling system, two types frequently preferred for hygienic powder handling systems are auger type screw conveyors and vibratory conveyors.

 

Screw Conveyors

A helical shaft is turned to gently push powder through the conveyor from the inlet to the discharge point. Screw conveyors are particularly suitable for the controlled metering of powder flow and when large lumps may be present. Available with an almost limitless variety of options including:

  • Long units and multiple augers for large horizontal distances
  • Inclined units for vertical lifts
  • Hand Demountable shaft removal options
  • Auger flight and pitch designs to suit application, standard, half/double, reverse, variable, conical, paddle types

Vibrating Tube Conveyors

Vibration is used to gently glide powder down an inclined tube from the inlet to the discharge point.  Vibro-tubes are ideal for the hygienic transfer of powders along shorter horizontal distances, and are available with a range of options:

  • No moving parts for negligible maintenance and easy cleaning
  • Multiple intake and discharge points
  • Bi-directional units available

Pressure Conveying Systems

Pressure convey systems are ideal for transporting material from one source to multiple destinations. Systems may use low velocity dense phase convey technology for sensitice friable materials and for conveying long distances, or lean / dilute phase conveying for general applications. The product transfer may be continuous or in batches depending on the  specific process requirements such as if batch weighing or recipe handling is required.

Powder Gassing Systems – Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP)

 

Packing in a low oxygen / inert gas environment is frequently used to extend the shelf-life of high-fat products such as whole-milk powders and Infant Formula.

Technopak supplies a range of equipment and systems to remove the air and replace with Nitrogen / CO2 in 25kg and bulk bag filling systems as well as for canning lines and sachet filling.
